A Emory University research project with Florida farmworkers was part of an innovative multi disciplinary convention on heat stress. Researchers on heat stress in agriculture shared their findings with researchers who study heat stress in athletes and the military, to learn from one another.

The Heat-Related Illness State of the Science Meeting is an initiative of the Southeastern Coastal Center for Agricultural Health and Safety (SCCAHS). They brought together scientists from the University of Florida, Florida State University, University of South Florida, Emory University and Georgia Tech University to discuss heat stress.

The Dean of Nursing at Emory University, Linda McCauley, explained how her team has been examining farmworkers’ physiologic responses to heat stress in Florida through the use of biomonitoring equipment.
