Dia de los muertos celebration for and with the community

Apopka - November 2, 2025

Community members came together to honor those who have passed on in a celebration of Día de Los Muertos at the FWAF office in Apopka. The day is meant to honor and remember the deceased, not with sadness, but with happiness, love and memories and in a celebration of keeping their spirits alive. The event is also a celebration of the traditions, culture, and family unity of the local community.

FWAF wants to thank all the allies, partners and collaborating organizations that were a part of the event. The list is long and FWAF is grateful to each and every one. A huge applause for the Apopka Youth Group that created the Día de Los Muertos altar in the office conference room. Their creativity, involvement, passion and interest resulted in a very moving altar. Thanks and gratitude to everyone.

Immokalee Youth Group

Apopka - July 27, 2025

Over 400 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to children and families from the FWAF Apopka office, thanks to many donations, including backpacks donated by the Apopka Police Department, Southern States Toyotalift, Pineapple Health, Sigue Jugando, Abrigando Corazones and others. In addition, families were able to receive free bags of food, free gently used clothes, and gift bags. There were also local organizations with tables offering information and services. These included info tables for: Florida Legal Services, Self-Help Credit Union Apopka, Seminole State College, Cricket Wireless Apopka, Centro de Ayuda Hispana – Claudia Digirgio.

One of the highlights of the day was the stunningly brilliant and colorful dancers known as the Corazon de Mexico, who performed their exciting ethnic Mexican dances for free for everyone present.

Our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated, but the best gratitude we received were the smiles on the faces of the children and their families who participated in the event.

Adelante!
